Come tour this unique historical gem with architecture from around the world, all on one campus. National Park Seminary in Silver Spring was originally built as a summer resort for D.C.’s elite in 1887. The campus’ eclectic mix of architectural styles (there’s a Japanese pagoda, Swiss chalet, Dutch windmill, and an English castle scattered throughout the Seminary’s 27 acres) was erected between 1887 and 1927. The Department of Defense used the property during World War II, as the Walter Reed Army Medical Center Forest Glen Annex. It then lapsed into neglect and disrepair until Save Our Seminary, working with National Trust and Montgomery County, rebuilt and preserved the facility. It now includes residential units and original sculptures as well as an archives. Our guided tour will be given by Save Our Seminary and last approximately two hours, mostly outside on paved paths.
