Metro - Learning from the Past, Rebuilding for the Future
Class 984
Our region came together 50 years ago to create Metro, and the first segment of the Red Line opened in 1976. By 1984, the Red Line had extended to Bethesda and Metrorail has had a transformative effect on the areas surrounding its stations. For many years, the success of Metro overshadowed those who questioned a financial structure without a dedicated regional tax and those who called for higher investments to maintain the system. Recent declines in service reliability and ridership have brought these issues to the forefront and Metro has embarked on major initiatives to rebuild the system. Come learn about Metro's "Back2Good" initiative to restore the system, tips for riding the system, and community efforts to bring art and other improvements to the Bethesda Metro station.
