Where is Iran Today Nearly Four Decades After an Islamic Revolution? Noted journalist and author Nazila Fathi will describe developments in Iran, a country that has been shrouded in secrecy and infamy because of its hostile policies. Hosted by Maplewood Village. Friends and neighbors welcome. If you would like to carpool, contact the office.

Nazila Fathi is an Iranian-Canadian journalist and writer. She spent twenty years reporting on Iranian events for The New York Times in Tehran, and then from exile.  She was a Nieman Fellow, a  Shorenstein Fellow, and also an associate at the Belfer Center at Harvard University. In 2014, her book The Lonely War: One Woman’s Account of Struggle for Modern Iran, was published by Basic Books.

Nazila will talk about growing up after the 1979 Islamic Revolution and how policies that were introduced by clerics changed and shaped Iranian society. She will discuss what the 2009 uprising—events that became known as the green revolution and preceded the Arab Spring—means for the future of the country.
